RE: Regenerate, Refurbish, Retype, Retrace, Revert proposes new systems of association and cataloging through the visual. This is antagonistic to an academic approach, a framework that tends to prioritize written language. Acknowledging the material qualities of archives and the multiplicity of sources of information enables us to emphasize the importance of orality and how personal experience broadens the scope of fields of research.

Challenge

"RE: Regenerate, Refurbish, Retype, Retrace, Revert, an exhibition that covers the practice of Letra Muerta Inc., a Venezuelan archive, design, and publishing project led by Faride Mereb and Oriana Nuzzi. The exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the significance of archival materials and the transformative power of publishing.

This is a multifaceted project that celebrates the depth of Venezuelan literary and political graphics. Through public programs and an expansive exhibition featuring original documents, manuscripts, audiovisual material, and multimedia installations, visitors are invited to explore the intricate layers of Letra Muerta Inc.’s processes."
